According to the latest news from foreign media, Finland's main trade unions have announced that they will extend their strikes after negotiations with the government have been deemed fruitless, which will paralyze the country's ports and freight operations into the third week.
All port operations, including ship loading and unloading, container pick-up and delivery, will be suspended, and air and land logistics will also be affected until April 1st.
According to reports, about 7000 workers have been on strike since March 11th. The union representing the dock workers launched a strike, and others joined the ranks of the strike. With the start of the strike, container business came to a standstill. But originally scheduled to end on March 25th, the union has now stated that it will be extended to at least April 1st, with their goal being port operations and railway transportation of goods.
Therefore, container operations at Finland's main ports Helsinki, Kotka, Turku, and Rauma will be suspended for another week. Container terminal operators have stated that once port workers return to the port, the backlog of goods may take a few more days to clear.
Maersk official website updated warning: Finland - Transport Workers Union strike affecting all businesses
Maersk stated that the AKT workers union in Finland will continue its strike for another week. Meanwhile, all port operations have been closed. The strike announced now will start at 06:00 on March 25th (the expected end of the current two-week strike) and continue until 06:00 on April 1st.
The details are as follows:
Kuehne+Nagel has issued a warning on its official website that political strikes in Finnish ports will continue until the end of March
Kuehne+Nagel stated that the SAK affiliated union has announced that they will continue their strike until Monday, April 1, 2024. The ship loading and unloading work at Finnish ports is still suspended, and during the strike, containers cannot be picked up or transported from the port to the port. Due to strikes, air freight logistics may experience unexpected delays and additional costs.
The strike is scheduled to end on Monday, April 1, 2024, coinciding with Easter. It is expected that there will be congestion at the port after the strike and Easter, so it is recommended to prepare for potential delays.
ONE's customer inquiries also suggest shippers that once the strike action ends, there will be delays. It added, "Due to the Easter holiday, operations are expected to resume on April 2nd. The strike will continue to have a significant impact on operations and will lead to further backlog of goods entering and exiting Finland."
Here is a reminder that recently, shippers and freight forwarders who have shipped goods to this country must closely monitor the delay and impact of strikes on the transportation of goods, in order to avoid unnecessary losses! Forward to Zhou Zhi~
